About LCB
The Lymm Concert Band has been established in Lymm for over 20 years. LCB was formed in the 1980’s from what remained of a struggling Warrington Concert Band. It was decided to relocate rehearsals to Lymm in 1992 with the possibility of attracting players from the Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale and Timperley areas. Within twelve months new members were joining from these areas. Some of the older members of the WCB left to join bands or orchestras in Warrington.
The new band, rehearsed in the upper room of the Spread Eagle Public House and called themselves the Lymm Concert Band.The band was able to obtain the services of Andrew Bassey as conductor (ex member of the Manchester Camerata and student of the RNCM). This attracted more players and the standard of musicianship also increased. Several concerts were performed under his baton. Unfortunately after eighteen months Andrew left to join the South African National Chamber Orchestra. The band was then obtained the services of John Brophy as conductor. He brought a wide experience of conducting choirs, orchestras and bands to the position. Once again this attracted more players with a high standard of musicianship from areas as far afield as Liverpool, Macclesfield, Duckinfield and Nantwich (to name just a few). Numerous concerts were performed in Lymm and other areas.
In September 2005 the band were very fortunate to be able to recruit the services of professional concuctor, Mr. Darren C. Wood B.A.(Hons.)., P.G.C.E., C.C.R.S. to take over as Musical Director & Principal Conductor of the Band. Since Darren has joined the Band the standard of performance has soared. The Band enjoys an excellent reputation and regularily excites and enthralls audiences around the North West.

In September 2005 Mr. Darren C. Wood became the Principal Conductor and Musical Director of Lymm Concert Band. Darren is originally from Bradford, West Yorkshire and studied for his B.A.(Hons.)., P.G.C.E., C.C.R.S. in Liverpool. He is a professional musician who has worked with some of the regions top Professional Ensembles. Whilst studying at University in Liverpool Darren conducted and performed with a large variety of amateur and professional ensembles, the Liverpool University Orchestra, Liverpool Hope University Orchestra and Choir, the Liverpool Chamber Orchestra and feature concerts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Since moving to Stockport Darren has taken up the Baton with many different ensembles including educational projects with Brass Band’s such as the Leyland Band, the Yorkshire Building Society Brass Band and the World famous Black Dyke Brass Band. Darren is presently the Musical Director of the Trafford Light Orchestra
(www.traffordlightorchestra.co.uk) and Head of Music at The Kingsway School in Cheadle. He brings a wealth of conducting experience to the Lymm Concert Band and together we relentlessly strive to push performance standards and produce exciting, entertaining and professional standard performances.
